2013 Apr 24

Kathryn A. Coe of Bedford, a junior at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa this spring. Membership in the society is one of the highest academic honors an undergraduate student can achieve.

Coe, who is majoring in chemistry with a concentration in cell and molecular biology/biochemistry, was one of 48 students to be inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Colby. A graduate of Bedford High School, she is the daughter of Lawrence and Diane Coe of Bedford, Mass.

The Phi Beta Kappa society, founded in 1776, restricts its chapters to leading colleges and universities. The Beta Chapter of Maine was organized at Colby in 1895.

Founded in 1813, Colby College is the 12th-oldest independent liberal arts college in the nation. Colby provides a rigorous academic program that fosters transformational relationships between students and faculty. Graduates emerge as leaders ready to make an impact on their world. Colby is committed to making the full experience accessible to all qualified students, regardless of their ability to pay. The college enrolls 1,825 students.
