Colby Men's Basketball Players Receive Honors from the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association

Colby College men's basketball players received honors from the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association.

Colby College junior Dean Weiner, who averaged 3.1 blocked shots per game, was named the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday.

Weiner and sophomore teammate Sam Jefferson also made the All-State Second Team. First-year guard Wallace Tucker was named to the All-Rookie Team.

Weiner was having a terrific season before missing seven games due to injury. He currently ranks first in the New England Small College Athletic Conference in rebounding (9.2) and blocked shots (3.1). Weiner is eighth in the league in field goal percentage (52.9) and 10th in assists per game (3.1).

Jefferson finished eighth in the NESCAC in scoring (15.4) and ranks fifth in free throw percentage (81.3). He also hit a team-best 73 3-point shots.

Tucker had a fine first season by finishing 18th in the conference in scoring (12.4), 12th in steals (1.2), and 15th in assists (2.8).
